Music has always been a integral part of my life.

Growing up, I remember riding in the back of my mom’s 1976 Chevy Nova listening to the Carpenters, KC and the Sunshine Band, Stevie Wonder, and Cat Stevens. These are just to name a few. Quite honestly, the longest lasting memory of music for me was from my summer stays with my dad in Odessa/Midland Texas. My brother, sister, and I would spend two weeks at his place every summer listening to an endless stream of Fleetwood Mac. Ah, yes…those were the days. Makes me think of skateboards, apartment poolside parties, and hanging out with dad. Sweet memories indeed; and a sweet soundtrack to boot.

Moving on into 6th grade I started in the band playing coronet. I was vying for the drums, but my step father at the time talked me out of it; bummer. Anyway, I ended playing all through Jr. High and on into High School. Yes, I was a band weenie. I have to say, our marching band kicked some serious butt. Go, Richland Rebels! Boy, those were the days…’Save the Flag!’ …what were we thinking? Not sure, but seemed like the right thing at the time. It gave us a purpose that drew us together.

Now I play guitar, write songs, and love to perform. I guess you could peg me as a singer/songwriter. Having pursued many different routes with my music and writing (still exploring), I’ve come full circle to a place of honesty and frankness. What I mean is I am free to write what I want about what I want, instead of trying to tickle the ears of industry folks to ‘advance my career’. There’s great freedom in just pouring yourself into your writing in order to capture what God has stirred in your heart, both musically and lyrically. One of the hardest things for me to do is fit into a mold described by another.

Haven’t I heard that before?

When out playing, RGB (the Robert Gotcher Band), loves to do their own renditions of time tested covers. From Bill Withers “Use Me” to Stevie Wonders “Superstition”, the band knows how to hit the pocket. Not only that, their original material fits quite nicely next to these great songs. Many times, new fans won’t even know that original music is being played. “I just assumed it was some more groovy R&B. Sweet!” responded one attender at the Ginger Man in Dallas (2009).
